Sat 1/20 - A short description:
I decided to focus on this more advanced design instead of continuing to try others for a matter of practicality and time (but I am more than willing to develop something else if you want), I also incorporated the feedback that all of you gave me by emails.
In my first export of the poster (left), I included this kind of Hawking figurine, I did it thinking that every year in that place something could be put up alluding to the theme of the current event. But then it seemed very stuffy and unbalanced. After that I removed a few elements, including the Hawking figure, and slightly adjusted the colors so that they are less bright and more "new Mexican", the change is minimal but I personally think it looks better.
I have added a space for a small description, in this case one I invented, but you will tell me what to put definitively. Also, leave a space at the end with your collaborators' logos in the flyer's style.
This piece, the poster, would be the most complex of the event, all these details are fine because it will be a large print, but the rest of the pieces would be simpler and more conceptual for a matter of legibility. I was playing with ideas and mockups, as you probably saw up here, I'm leaving some ideas of possible brochure, pins, stickers, etc. You can later confirm exactly what extra desings you need.
Once you confirm I will create a Google Drive folder with all the designs. The final deliveries will be in PNG/JPG format and the highest quality.

January 16 - 2nd DELIVERY (NEW IDEAS, NEW APPROACH)
1st Idea (It is still drafted, not finished)
I know you need other (or more) formats, but this is an approach, if you like the concept I will prepare all the elements from here. Thanks! :)
Mock Up (to have an approx idea of how it would look)
Note: The Hawking figure is just sketched here, it won't look like that.
REDUCED VERSIONS
I still need to think more about how to "clean" the design...
LOGO ideas from this concept:
ABOUT COLORS, still thinking on it.
I started this idea with browns and light blues because they are New Mexican colors. I still can put this palette on all the designs, even though for me looks better with the funky palette I presented up here, it is just more "cosmic" - And about the black, is something we can't avoid since I am taking the 'cosmos' as reference.
CREATIVE PROCESS
2nd IDEA, This one is in a very early moment, barely developed, but I will present you what I have and you can tell me if you want me to continue this idea to have a better look at it.
IN PROGRESS - CHECK BACK SOON :)
January 10/11 Feedback - Notes
* ideas for the brand, Cosmic Frontiers, and the poster and other materials.
* John: First reaction is we should think about making this Cosmic Frontiers branding so it will be flexible going forward, meaning not necessarily specific to Stephen Hawking. So for next year if the topic is "the moon" (just an example) how would the brand morph to include that but still be recognizable as being related to the one we have this year on Hawking. Some continuity year to year would be important. So maybe something that stays the same each year, but then the topic influences some part of the image - like for this year we have black holes and hawking in his chair, but next year we have moon rovers and a crescent moon.
* I am thinking we should concentrate on the brand or the lettering design that is unique to Cosmic Frontiers, here is what is on the site, www.CosmicFrontiers.org. Maybe some examples of the brand / lettering will allow us to see the illustrations in light of that brand and the name of the event?
* I am leaning toward concept two and the reasoning
*NM images and colors for brainstorming design:https://www.google.com/search?sca_esv=597261711&q=images+of+new+mexico&tbm=isch&source=lnms&sa=X&sqi=2&ved=2ahUKEwiGm4KAydODAxUvK0QIHZMTCrcQ0pQJegQIDBAB&biw=2317&bih=1181&dpr=2We could put some distinctive NM symbol in it, that would make it obvious it's NM. Reistra, roadrunner, chili, zia, adobe, turquoise, etc.
*1. SERIES BRAND - We need "Cosmic Frontiers" brand, lettering, and design elements. This brand will be used every year for different events, publications, etc.
3. 2025 EVENT - We don't have the topic yet, but it might be "Living on the Moon," which would mean a separate graphic treatment, but the same Cosmic Frontiers brand.
* Zach: I like the composition of the first and the reasoning of the second. Would combining these ideas be possible, or would that dilute their impact or make them too busy?
*Gordon: New Mexico color palette [tierras y celestes]
January 10, '24 - DELIVERY OF SKETCHES/ APPROACHES / IDEAS
FIRST IDEA
In my first idea I though on an image that could be iconic, and I mean not only memorable but something that works as an icon or logo.
Here I present an image of Stephen with a deep look and a wise but calm expression. He is looking beyond, and he in turn is observing what he studied so much. Accompanied by this main figure is the black hole, in which everything is distorted in the event horizon area. That's why my idea is to make the images as if they "melt" when approaching the hole.
Around this main composition I would place many stars and planets, also his famous book and some formulas or small figurines of related things.
The good thing about this image is that it can be reduced to just Stephen and the hole, usable as a logo. But it can also be extended to a larger, more complex composition by adding all the elements. This factor will give you a lot of flexibility in the use of the images, I would give you several versions (reduced, complex, elongated, square, etc.) of the same image.
SECOND IDEA
This idea works differently than the other because there would not be such a marked hierarchy in the components of the image. It is a black hole and a celestial space, with many nebulae and galaxies around, and a lot of objects are floating around. Each object has a significant meaning in the history of Hawkin's life. The element that would stand out is Stephen in his chair looking and approaching the hole.
Everything here is kind of a silhouette, there is less detail in each element than in the first idea. Even each element is "simple" the final composition would be very complex.
About the elements:
Him and his chair: Person direct reference
Apple: Classic Physics
Cat: Quantum Physics
Clock and dripping cup of tea: Time study
Some atoms that comes up for entanglement
His book
Stars, planets, etc.
What else should I implement?
IN ANY CASE, THE COLOR PALETTE WILL GO AROUND THESE COLORS:
